The antropology study programme

Imagen
My study programme corresponds to that of anthropology with a major in social anthropology and, previously, that of the basic cycle of anthropology. Regarding the subjects that I have had to take, I can say that in general I have liked them, but I sincerely feel that at least in terms of theory and I perceive some gaps in the curriculum. Little has been addressed, for example, Latin American perspectives of anthropological studies and I consider that, in fact, these should occupy a central place in the race. Regarding the academic load, I believe that it is unbalanced in certain branches and that there is no standard that allows the optimal organization of the semesters and the study time of the students. This is undoubtedly an aspect in which one should work conscientiously to achieve a better organization of the race. Speaking of the faculty, I don't feel like it has a bad infrastructure at all. However, the library is very small for the amount of students that we are and studyi...

I don't want to travel to the future

Imagen
I'm not really sure if I would like to travel to the future sincerely, I think this could be very depressing if as humanity we continue on this course or if, on the contrary, everything has changed for the better that would ruin my surprise. I would prefer, in fact, to travel back in time since it causes me much more curiosity and I think I could understand certain things that today do not make much sense to me. In any case, I do not know how possible time travel is, but if it were proven that it is possible, I think it is something that for safety should not be experienced. In fact, perhaps I am not so excited about the trip to the future because simply scientific advances and "progress" do not give me any sense of optimism, unless the new technologies are in essential fields such as medicine and of equal access. If not, I simply find them unnecessary. I hope that in the future there will be better and more accessible cancer treatments instead of flying cars, although I ...

My Future Job

Imagen
I would like to work as a social anthropologist specializing in socio-environmental problems, focused on conflicts caused by the installation of extractive mining companies. Therefore, I would like this work, and should be done, on the outdoors in the middle of the territories in conflict to be able to work together with the local communities. I live in Santiago and the vast majority of these types of conflicts caused by extractivism take place outside the region, and a large part of them are located in the northern part of the country, so I would have to travel frequently to carry out this I work and that motivates me a lot. I am sure that they will be great experiences and I hope to help with them. All this interests me now for now that I am studying anthropology with a specialty in social anthropology. Regarding salary, there are many memes and it is classic to make fun that anthropologists do not receive a very good salary in their jobs, but this is rather an exaggeration I think, ...

A nice day!

Since the pandemic began, I have seen very few people who do not live with me or who are not a close relative, and only on specific occasions. Yesterday for the first time in over a year I was able to meet my best friend. In addition, we also met with others whom I only saw on only one occasion in all this time. I really missed them a lot and being able to see them again has been, without a doubt, one of the best days I have had in quite some time. We laughed a lot remembering multiple stories and although we did not talk about anything very deep or about any topic that could be considered more relevant, I was really happy to be able to hear his laughter again near me. Unfortunately, the meeting had to be very limited due to the curfew time, but we took advantage of every minute to join us as we always had. In the midst of some complicated weeks, both due to the context and the sum of so many factors such as the accumulation of evaluations in the coming days, the joy that I experi...

The social anthropology

Imagen
I study anthropology with a specialty in social anthropology. This branch of the discipline studies, according to the most common and accepted classifications, the various cultures that have existed and exist to this day in the human race along with their widely varied characteristics, always trying to answer the question of how a certain group human lives in a certain sociocultural phenomenon in a specific context? This emerged as a form of colonizing study by the imperialist powers of the nineteenth century but, fortunately, with the passage of time different theoretical, methodological and action approaches emerged that have allowed the possibility of developing critical perspectives with the potential capacity to intervene in the reality of human groups. Although this is not a positive aspect by itself, since it can also be used for unethical purposes, it is also true that a large number of anthropologists use their knowledge to help certain groups to make certain problems visible ...

My best holidays

Imagen
It was february of 2020, just a couple weeks before that the COVID pandemia arrives to our country. I toured around the south of Chile, specifically cities like Valdivia, Frutillar and a lot of places of the island Chiloé as Achao, Curaco de Vélez or a beautiful and lonely beach named Duhatao. It was a backpacking and autostop travel with four friends: Octavio, Pascual, Gina and Renzo. We were traveling for around three or four weeks with a lot of of laughs, wonderful landscapes, kind unknown people and expreriences. In facts, it was a simple travel, without defined plans but it allowed a relaxed journey. We did very much things, like visit lonely beaches, meet meraviglius people like Armando and Juana (a couple of Ancud that invited us to spend the night at their house and they prepared delicious food for us), walk into the forests of Chiloé, and play the guitar and sing all the nigths over the gorgeus starry sky of the south. All of this small and things were the...

The country I would like to visit is México for a lot of reasons. The most important are the History of the country, their awesome archaeological remains, their gastronomy and and their wonderful artistic expressions. This is the most populated country of all Spanish speakers and the weather could be very hot, and this is the only element that I definitely don´t like of this, I prefer the warm or cold weather. According to my opinion, their most interesting places are the remains of the precolumbians civilizations Azteca and Maya, like Chichen Itzá or Tulum, what is a meraviglious beach too!  I would like to visit this places because I'am studying anthropology and it is very related whit this topics. Also I love the latin american history and México has very much interesting characters, events and processes to learn, like their revolution, the relationship between Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata and the current Municipios Autónomos Rebeldes Zapatistas of the ...
