The social anthropology

UB Antropologia i Etnografia. Study in Catalonia

I study anthropology with a specialty in social anthropology. This branch of the discipline studies, according to the most common and accepted classifications, the various cultures that have existed and exist to this day in the human race along with their widely varied characteristics, always trying to answer the question of how a certain group human lives in a certain sociocultural phenomenon in a specific context?

This emerged as a form of colonizing study by the imperialist powers of the nineteenth century but, fortunately, with the passage of time different theoretical, methodological and action approaches emerged that have allowed the possibility of developing critical perspectives with the potential capacity to intervene in the reality of human groups. Although this is not a positive aspect by itself, since it can also be used for unethical purposes, it is also true that a large number of anthropologists use their knowledge to help certain groups to make certain problems visible or even solve them, not referring to only to academics, and that is precisely what I would like to do once I have graduated.

I chose this career for two very simple reasons. Because I like to read and because I really enjoy human company and talking with people I don't know, listening to their stories and everything they have to say. While obviously not all aspects of the career I like, so far I think I made the best decision I could have chosen, and that is very rewarding.
